INTRODUCTION TO APAF - The Auckland Performing Arts Forum 2009 (Moving Right Along)
APAF
AUCKLAND PERFORMING ARTS FORUM 2009
MOVING RIGHT ALONG
This year the 2ND Auckland Performing Arts Forum was held on Friday 30th October at the Aotea Centre, THE EDGE.
An open invitation was issued to anyone and everyone who is involved in the Performing Arts in Auckland – over 150 people attended the day, among them, actors, directors, producers, community groups, writers, designers, choreographers, musicians, technicians
In one day, 30 topics got discussed. The discussions from the day can be continued here.
The day was facilitated by Briar Monro using “open space” technology – meaning the attendees set their own agenda – and was supported by Auckland City Council, THE EDGE and Q Theatre.
At the end of the forum, people were given an opportunity to speak about what the day had meant to them. The following themes / comments emerged:
- For younger practitioners, it is invigorating to see the transparency and friendliness of the industry
- The open space format is liberating in giving those involved the permission to move around discussions.
- There is enormous benefit to be had from the experience and the other attendees have been very generous in the process.
- It’s great to see that everyone was able to express their point of view and no one was deemed to be wrong.
- Thank-you to all those who are going to follow through on the day’s outcomes, many issues are going to go the distance as a result of today.
- For new-comers to Auckland the day has provided the opportunity to be welcomed into this awesome community that comes across as being very open and accessible.
