Letting Space
Imagine a city where artists had as much visibility as retailers. Imagine if a city, down on its economic performance, turned to artists for savvy, responsive and provocative solutions for using commercial space. Imagine if this relationship became a permanent one, and not just a gap-filler used at a time of economic recession.
Letting Space is a public art programme commencing in April, which over several stages seeks to transform the CBD of Wellington and doing so transform the relationship between artists, property developers and the Wellington City. Letting Space, managed and curated by Sophie Jerram and Mark Amery, involves the commissioning of six temporary public art works by leading New Zealand contemporary artists and forum aimed at bridging the gap between art and realty.
