Focus on a Frozen Land - By Andris Apse
The Hastings City Art Gallery invites you to view an exhibition of photographs from Antarctica by renowned landscape photographer Andris Apse.
Antarctica is an untouched wilderness. Majestic, pristine, and for a landscape photographer, exhilarating.
Andris Apse describes photography in Antarctica as “a serious challenge” to his working style. “Anywhere else in the world,” he explains, “I can calculate, explore and return to locations time and time again.” The breadth and magnificence of the resulting images, however, from seals to penguins, ice formations to wind-sculptured rocks, are true testament to Apse’s vision and technical skill.
Apse is already widely acclaimed for his ability to capture the wild perfection and rugged beauty of New Zealand landscapes. His Antarctic work adds a new dimension, and is sure to please those already familiar with his work as well as win him new admirers.
