First Thursdays
Set in historic St Kevin’s Arcade, First Thursdays will be held on Thursday 3 December from 6-10pm. Highlights include live music, live on air broadcasts from George FM, sizzling Brazilian dancing, hip hop dancing from the renowned Triple8Funk crew, live art and inspiring works by a mix of emerging and established artists which will be for sale at the event.
Featured works will be presented by pop surrealist Sister Darling, glass sculptor Uri Davillier, and Peap Tarr, whose street style inspired by ancient Cambodian art (for the full line up of artists visit firstthursdays.co.nz).
Vintage and designer fashion boutiques and specialty shops will stay open and food and drinks will be served at Alleluya Bar & Cafe. An afterparty will be held at the Khuja Lounge which is offering free entry to anyone who comes to First Thursdays.
A fresh concept being introduced to the K Road art and social scene, First Thursdays seeks to contribute to the area’s eclectic culture while providing a new venue for artists to showcase their work, bridging the gap between gallery and street art. Inspired by a traditional art walk that has been held in Seattle, USA for over 18 years, each first Thursday of the month, event coordinator Cleo Barnett wanted to create a similar social arts gathering in Auckland.
First Thursdays is a free public event supported by the K Road Business Association, George FM, Free Hamburger, Issac's Cider and a number of other supporting businesses.
Come be a part of the collaboration!
