John Reynolds & OLO artist talks at the Town Hall

Auckland City Council Public Art Projects – Artist Lecture Series #3

OLO (Finland) and John Reynolds (NZ)

When: Wednesday 9 December, starts at 6.30pm (approx 1 hour)

Where: Town Hall Council Chamber, Queen Street

Admission is FREE

Come and hear artists, OLO (Pasi Karjula and Marko Vuokola, Finland) and John Reynolds (NZ) talk about their past and current art projects.

OLO is an artists' collaboration between Finnish artists Pasi Karjula and Marko Vuokola. Both are leading artists in the Finnish art scene, but with very different approaches. Karjula is renowned for his wooden sculptures, relating to a minimalist tradition but often crafted with a chainsaw from giant tree trunks. Vuokola is a strictly conceptualist artist, working with strong formal discipline and slick surfaces, lately often in photographic diptychs. Together they are something else, an unpredictable and inspired unity of minds. They have worked with a wide range of projects across the world.

John Reynolds, who lives and works in Auckland, has twice been a finalist for the prestigious Walters Prize and in 2006 was awarded a New Zealand Arts Foundation Laureate. His diverse drawing and painting works range from the size of postcards and stamps to the architectural scale of building facades and landscape works.

Auckland City Council is pleased to present this lecture in conjunction with an exciting portfolio of major public art commissions planned for Auckland city, which will be developed over the next few years. The council is currently working with selected artists from New Zealand and overseas on concepts for these projects.
