Economic downturn & employing migrants & refugees

Based on Statistics New Zealand’s Business Operations Survey 2008,
29% of employers were unable to find applications with the qualifications or
skills to match their vacancies. Despite current economic situation, Immigration
New Zealand had identified 119 occupations that meet the Immediate Skill
Shortage requirement, areas where there is a significant shortage of skilled
workers, as of March 2009.

Migrants and refugees can bring in skills beyond technical
experiences; but with the growing multi-culturalism and globalization in New
Zealand, they could contribute to the economics
of your organization.
