Basic Introduction to Playback Theatre

Playback Theatre is a form of improvised theatre whereby the material for the show comes from the audience in the form of real life stories. These short moments or longer stories from life are then spontaneously and immediately improvised or 'played back' to the audience. The drama is contained within various playback forms and these are learnt and practised in rehearsals. In this workshop you will learn some of the playback forms as well as some of the history and philosophy behind playback theatre and about Auckland Playback Theatre as a company. At the end of the day, if you so wish, you will be invited to join the Auckland Playback Theatre.
