Artist Lecture by COMPANY: Johan Olin and Aamu Song (Finland / Korea)

Come and hear the innovative duo COMPANY- Johan Olin and Aamu Song – from Helsinki, Finland, talk about their past and current art and design projects.

In Auckland as part of a public art project briefing, the artist-designer duo Johan Olin and Aamu Song have many projects that stretch the imagination in remarkable ways. Since establishing COMPANY in 2000, Johan Olin and Aamu Song’s unique and whimsical art and design work has been exhibited throughout Europe and in Korea; and they have won several prestigious awards.

Auckland City Council is pleased to present this lecture in conjunction with an exciting portfolio of major public art commissions planned for Auckland City, which will be developed over the next few years. Council is currently working with selected artists from New Zealand and overseas on concepts.

    Rob Garrett has more than 30 years experience in the visual arts (as artist, educator, writer, curator, senior arts manager, relationship manager and government advisor). Garrett is a contemporary art specialist and expert in developing art and cultural programmes; curating and commissioning contemporary art projects (including public art); developing cultural strategies; brokering dynamic professional, political and diplomatic connections; promoting high quality contemporary art through writing, news media and forums; visual arts marketing; and identifying and realising leverage opportunities. He is a highly skilled and very experienced communicator and a superior team-builder and manager.

    Rob Garrett’s notable former roles include: Head of School, Dunedin School of Art, Otago Polytechnic; Senior Manager, Creative New Zealand, Arts Council of New Zealand Aotearoa; Project Leader, New Zealand Pavilion, 51st Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art 2005; Council Member, Arts Council of New Zealand Aotearoa (Government appointment); and Founding Chair, Otago Festival of the Arts, Dunedin.
