Chamber Music Ensemble 'Duo Artus' on tour in NZ
Duo Artus was founded by Polish-born Krzysztof Kaczka (flute) and German-born Perry Schack (guitar) in 2003 and has since won numerous international awards. In 2008, Duo Artus gave their debut in New York's Carnegie Hall. Their repertoire spans virtuosic music literature for flute and concert guitar and ranges from Bach's flute sonatas over Bizet's Carmen Fantasie to Piazzola's "Histoire du Tango".
To celebrate the German-Polish friendship 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany are delighted to present the German-Polish Ensemble.
In Wellington their programme features : M. D. Pujol (Suite Buenos Aires), F. Molino (Noturno No. 2), J. S. Bach (Suite BWV 995), Z. Bargelski (Noturno), A. Piazzolla (Histoire Du Tango), C. Machado (Quebra Queixo, Pacoca) and H. Villa Lobos (Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5).
Perry Schack was born in Munich (Germany) in 1977 and studied at Hochschule für Musik Augsburg, graduating with honours ("Summa cum Laude") in 2001. In the same year Perry Schack was the first European to win a major prize at the International Guitar competition in Boston/ USA. He performs frequently both as a solist and with chamber music in New York, Washington D.C., Sydney, Rom, Paris, Vienna, and Munich. In 2008 he performed as winner of the IBLA Grand Prize with Krzysztof Kaczka, Duo Artus in the Carnegie Hall in New York.
Krzysztof Kaczka was born in Torun (Poland) in 1977 and graduated from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, where his teacher was Prof. Marianne Henkel-Adorjan, and completed his postgraduate studies with Prof. Irena Grafenauer at the University Mozarteum Salzburg as well as with the principal flutist of the Wiener Philharmoniker, Prof. Wolfgang Schulz, at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. As an “Artist- in Residence” at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada he has performed with Joel Smirnoff (Juilliard String Quartet), Barry Shiffman (St. Lawrence String Quartet), Pedja Muzijevic, Chen Halevi and Eliot Fisk.
