PAINTAMANIA - new paintings by Richard Simmonds

Paintamania is an exhibition of new works by Wellington based artist Richard Simmonds. Richard is a Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate who bases his work on pop icons. The works are an expression of his personal interest in the fantasy versus reality of pop music, science fiction and mass hysteria entertainment such as professional wrestling. His artwork reflects his admiration for the colourful world of iconic personalities whether real or incredible.

The concept of Paintamania is based on the Hulkamania franchise created by the WWF (WWE). Reality and fantasy are drawn to one another whether on the silver screen or on the stage or in the wrestling or boxing ring. Richard Simmonds creates his own rhetoric with his artwork as he continues the journey from boyhood fantasy into an adult world that continually craves for the fantastic.

Paintamania allows the viewer to indulge in their own personal memories and fantasies through a series of colourful and vibrant works. Expect to be pampered and to let loose the manic desire for the fantastic.

As Hulk Hogan would say “What you gonna do when Paintamania runs wild on you?!”
