Structuring & Taxation for Music Managers & Record Companies - 23 September, 9am -12.30pm

This fully funded half day workshop, including question time, will cover how to effectively structure your Music business activities.

Course content includes:

  • Factors, including taxation and risk management that need to be considered when determining appropriate ownership structures for music managers and their artists. (e.g. partnerships, companies, sole traders and trusts)
  • Dealing with and managing provisional tax
  • Standard royalty and mechanical payments from labels to artists
  • What can/can’t be recouped?
  • What do/don’t you pay mechanicals on
  • Agreements for multiple shareholders/partnerships which provide a mechanism for setting boundaries for peoples actions, disagreements and entitlements
  • Brief overview of taxation implications when doing business offshore

Raise your profile within the music sector by attending this fully funded full day workshop that will review and explore promotional skills, publicity plans, and more; all supported by real-world examples. Guest Speaker Mark Kneebone (Isaac Promotions) will share industry experiences and knowledge.
Course content includes:

  • Target Markets: understanding your fans, their lifestyle and their values
  • Establish a reputation: Branding and image
  • Sponsorship management and merchandise
  • Winning over the media and building a strategy to do so
  • Promotion: What is your Media Strategy?
    • Creating a loyal fan base/Fan base management
    • Getting out there: Events, touring and gigs
    • Viral marketing
    • Radio - getting on air
  • Distribution and retail strategy
  • The effect of technology and the web

Participants of this workshop must meet the following criteria -

  • Be the owner, operator or manager within the small to medium enterprise
  • Be trading - as a business or as a sole trader / freelancer
  • Be operating for profit. Charitable Trusts and not-for-profits are unfortunately not eligible.
  • Employ less than 50 full-time staff (Full time = 30 hours or more per week)
