DIGITAL STRATEGIES - Innovations through Apparel
Presented by The Textile and Design Laboratory, this symposium features keynote speaker Kerry King, from US Textile and Clothing Technology Corporation, (TC)². It will include presentations from New Zealand and overseas experts including a SKYPE link up with DIANA ENG sponsored by CoLab on the first day, 14th April at 3.45pm.
Diana Eng strives to integrate fashion and technology. She hopes to make the fashion-minded more interested in the research process and the scientifically-minded more interested in fashion as a form of self-expression. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rhode Island School of Design in apparel design, Diana researched biomimetics at the University of Bath Mechanical Engineering Department and has collaborated with MIT on the "Seamless" fashion show. Eng has been a repeat guest lecturer at the Florida Teachers Council of Mathematics Annual Conference on the use of visual aids and hands-on models including origami and spirolaterals as teaching tools. Her work has been featured in outlets such as the cover of ID Magazine and the Boston Globe.
She is also co-founder of a hacker collective called NYC Resitor, she is a resident with Eyebeam, and she ran an interactive web video programme called Fairy Tale fashion, showing ways of incorporating science and technology into fashion and using viewer feedback to create designs for a fashion show at the end. Her book "Fashion Geek: Clothes Accessories Tech" is a DIY incorporating electronics into fashion instructional guide. She was also a contestant on Project Runway and worked for Victoria's Secret research and development, and has created projects like "Blogging in Motion" which combined a camera, a handbag, a pedometer and Yahoo Flickr to create a device that takes a picture after every few steps and then automatically blogs those pictures.
She has also made instructional videos on creating ham radios which is an extension of hacking.
Kerry King, our keynote speaker from US Textile and Clothing Technology Corporation, (TC)², will deliver presentations on Sustainable Product Development, 3D Body Scanning, Avatars and Virtual Fashion, and Technologies and Applications for Digital Textile Printing.
