As you may by now be aware -- Q Theatre will be opening its doors on 305 Queen Street in September next year

It will add at least two new performance spaces plus rehearsal and meeting spaces and a nice big bar to the landscape.

Ten years ago, a group of dance and theatre industry people got together to make their vision of brand new, flexible, industry-led theatre in downtown Auckland, become a reality. They got together under the banner of the NTI ( New Theatre Initiative).

And now the theatre is rapidly being built between The Town Hill and The Basement. Construction is on schedule, and the call has gone out for expressions of interest in hiring the theatre and/or studio theatre in 2011-12

Now that the building is almost ready, the question is what next for the NTi?

What has been proposed is an independent industry-driven group to advocate / organise / instigate / agitate / inspire / plan / develop our industry, both around Q and beyond. It would explore questions like......what is the best way...

. to get your shows on stage?

. to run development workshops?

. to Lobby funding agencies

. organise to having play readings?

. to find mentor support

. to develop infrastructure for independent companies? and artists?

. to share resources / advertising / information / contacts / ideas

....

We have some ideas about what might happen next... please bring yours ...
