Ki wiwi, Ki wawa - Home and Away

Artists Ki Wiwi - Simon Lardelli, Melanie Tahata, Peter Kaa, Sam Taare, Tania Short

Ki Wawa - Natalie Robertson, Chris Bryant, Rangituhia Hollis, Dion Hitchens

A show that explores the idea of tribal belonging with respect to the artists kainga - where they live on a day to day basis. Does Te Tairawhiti become a kind of Hawaiiki, when through  space, distance and time - the romantic view takes hold. Is the romantic view of the mythical 'home' inevitable?

I live in Turanga Nui a Kiwa - Te Tairawhiti (Gisborne for the uninitiated). Work for Creative Tairawhiti Inc developing arts generally in our district. Have my own design business in partnership with Martin Page my partner, and generally work on creative projects that we either initiate or come from a range of other sources. I am an artist and I also manage the V 48 Hours Furious Film-making in Gisborne. When do I fit it all in? Good question...
