CREATIVE WRITING COURSE WITH FRANKIE McMILLAN

‘This lively course has an emphasis on developing writing skills and sparking creativity. Students will explore both fiction and poetry, and look at the different crafting principles which form the basis of good writing. By the end of the workshop students will have written several short pieces of fiction and poetry. Throughout the sessions students will receive feedback on their writing and have the opportunity to discuss their work in individual sessions with the tutor. Text analysis of literary fiction will be a part of the ongoing discussion of what makes good literature.

Frankie McMillan is an award winning short story writer and poet.

She is author of ‘The Bag Lady’s Picnic and other stories’, and a collection of poetry ‘Dressing for the Cannibals’. Her qualifications include an MA in Creative Writing (Victoria University), and a Certificate in Adult Education (Christchurch College of Education). She currently teaches creative writing at CPIT, Christchurch, and at the Hagley Writers Institute. At present she is working on a second collection of short fiction.
