This course offers both a historical context to the evolution of portrait photography and a practical and detailed study of the various elements essential in creating your own effective portraits. You will identify and work with different light qualities and gain an appreciation for exposure control; depth of field; the use of reflectors; and front, side and back lighting as tools to determine the final desired look and feel of your image. You will have practical assignments to work on each week and will share your work in class. We will also go on a field trip together and explore street portraiture. This course is designed for those with some experience of photography who own their own Single Lens Reflex (SLR) or Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera. Bring a tripod and independent flash if you have one. Limited to 15 participants
