Presented by Julia Bloore from TVNZ 6's In Between, and Jim Mora of Mucking In fame, the series tells the stories of visionary and award-winning projects operating in kiwi communities - fuelled by the boundless energy of community volunteers. Building on the success of the TrustPower National Community Awards, the episodes, all less than five minutes in length, takes viewers to 25 districts around the country, looking at marvellous ways in which communities get amazing things done.
The newest episode to be added to the line-up follows The League of Victorian Imagineers of Oamaru. They are part of the 'Steampunk Movement' - which is tomorrow as it used to be, how today would look powered by steam technology - Victorian Science Fiction. Steampunk can be applied to any aspect of life and living, it provides a fantastic opportunity for invention and creativity - the only limitation is the imagination. Steampunk provides Oamaru with a point of difference and relates to and supports the Victorian Heritage of the town.
The League has five volunteers who put all their time and energy into setting up events around Oamaru. Recently they have organised a Fashion Show and Gala Ball, and a very successfully gallery exhibition which saw 6,000 people visit over a four week period.
