Festival of Light and Colour

Come and see the Quarry light up in a celebration of colour and light! Artist from all disciplines will be selecting a location within the Quarry Arts Centre to “light up’ in the most creative way possible.  There will be a festive atmosphere, a fire dancing demonstration, food and mulled wine stalls and of course masses of light, colour and creativity.  This is an element of the Whangarei Mid Winter Arts Festival and the finally to the whole festival will be a lantern parade on the 1 August. Bring lantern (or enrol in our Lantern Making Workshops) to the Central Library Courtyard at 6pm to take part in the lantern parade to the Quarry Arts Centre.

Festival of Light and Colour competition

We still have a few spaces left for people to ‘light up’ at the Festival of Light and Colour. We can assist with lighting ideas and some lights. Make sure you get in touch ASAP to reserve your spot. Your work can also be up for sale during the festival and there will be some fantastic prizes up for grabs. More details to come soon. Please contact the Quarry staff ASAP to reserve your place.

Be a part of this fantastic event!

We are looking for people to lend a hand over the three days of the Festival of Light and Colour. If you are able to help us from 6pm-9pm on Fri 30th, Sat 31st July or Sun 1st August we would love to hear from you!

 
We need JARS and TIN CANS!

For a light instillation that we are planning… we need tins, jars and more tins. If you have any to give away we would really appreciate them asap. Please no tins smaller that a standard spaghetti tin.

 
Lantern Friday

On Friday 16th July from 12.30pm we are having a lantern making session in the scallop room to make decorations for the Festival of Light and Colour. Anyone welcome to come along and get involved. The more the merrier!

Bring your lantern to the Central Library Courtyard at 6pm to take part in the lantern parade to the Quarry Arts Centre.

We are holding lantern making workshops leading up to the event so enrol now to make your very own lantern! You can also make a lantern during the festival weekend in the Old Library.

- Artists in all forms are invited to be a part of the Whangarei Mid Winter Arts Festival 2010! There are plenty of ways that you are able to be a part of the festival – we need your support to make this happen!

MWAF is looking for volunteers so if there is any way you can help they would love to hear from you.

During the weekend of the festival, we need all sorts of help – from setting up, to manning information or crafts stalls, to keeping an eye on children and even working in our bar!  We have a number of ways people can help out with, and we really do need your help!
