A special invitation to the Wellington theatre industry

Saturday 24 July, 6pm

Downstage Theatre Bar

In 1953 Waiting for Godot opened to universal derision.  Today it is considered by some to be “the most significant English language play of the 20th century”.

What changed?  The play didn’t.  But the audience did.

Downstage Director Hilary Beaton addresses the current climate of New Zealand theatre-making and compares it to international practice and trends in the Downstage bar on Saturday 24 July at 6pm.

Have a drink and join a robust, controversial and honest discussion on:

  • What is the future of theatre?
  • Who decides what is ‘good’?
  • What is the role of Downstage in promoting a contemporary and diverse program?
