Fauré and Friends Concert
The City of Dunedin Choir, conducted by David Burchell, presents a concert in St Paul's Cathedral. The programme includes the Fauré Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine and more.
Gabriel Fauré is regarded as the master of the French art song, or mélodie. His works ranged from an early romantic style, when in his early years he emulated the style of Mendelssohn and others, to late 19th century Romantic, and finally to a 20th century aesthetic. The Requiem, Op. 48, was not composed to the memory of a specific person but, in Fauré's words, "for the pleasure of it." It was first performed in 1888.
Join us for an afternoon of beautiful choral music performed to world-class standards.

- City of Dunedin Choir
As Dunedin's leading exponent of large-scale choral works, the City of Dunedin Choir strives for the highest standards in performing the classics of the repertoire, such as Bach's St Matthew Passion and St John Passion, The Messiah (which it has performed about 120 times!), the Verdi Requiem and the Brahms Requiem.
The Choir provides a forum for young, aspiring soloists and welcomes opportunities to perform with other choirs, such as the Invercargill A Capella Singers and the Auckland Choral Society.
