Writing a Stage Play with Roger Hall
A day with New Zealand’s favourite playwright Roger Hall looking at some of the techniques that help with writing a play.
The day's course will cover the following topics:
1. Dialogue
2. Character, what is the best number of characters to have?
3. Why write a play (instead of, say, a novel)
4. What sort of play should I write?
5. Plots and sub-plots
6. Exposition
7. Polarising the cast
8. Holding the audience
9. A scene is like a short play
10. Working methods
The day's course will include some exercises to be done in class, scenes from plays and video clips from plays.
