Oi! 2010 Celebrating the Maori New Year.
Oi! 2010
Oi! is to be in continuous motion or to stir constantly. And that’s exactly what Oi! Producers Rihari Taratoa-Bannister and Kelly Tikao are all about, in their lives and their chosen fields of creativity.
After sell out Oi seasons in 2007 and 2009, and facilitating successful drama and dance workshops with internationally recognised art practitioners - Taratoa-Bannister and Tikao have been brewing up another wonderful event for the Dunedin public.
Oi! 2010 will drop one 20-foot and one 8-foot shipping container into the Octagon. These will then be transformed into the Oi! Pods – that will then be Maorified into the smallest picture theatre in Aotearoa (well at least in Dunedin) and one experimental video installation space.
Oi! is fortunate this year to team up with Dunedin’s premier graffiti art troupe, Visual Intelligence. They will welcome the Dunedin public with Cans in Hand – a graffiti art display on the exterior of the 20-foot shipping container. Once this is completed audiences are then ushered into the containers for the Oi! Film Feast. Maori flavoured documentaries; short films and video installation will play from morning to evening over six days.
And like the previous years, Oi! aims to tease, please and unease under the embrace of our shining whet? – Puaka and Matariki. These stars herald the festivities of the Maori New Year and a harvest of new beginnings.
Oi! 2010 will take place in the Dunedin, Lower Octagon, June 1st – June 7th.
