Visual Art in Aotearoa/New Zealand: Differences and Identities
Leonard Bell, PhD
Ngarino Ellis, MA
What is different and new about the visual arts in New Zealand, and how do the arts relate to ethnic, social and gender identities? This course explores painting, sculpture and carving, photography and other visual media, both M?ori and European, and landscape, cross-cultural interactions, adaptation and innovation, from the eighteenth century to the near present. You will join a class studying Art History (ARTHIST 110) as part of an undergraduate degree, but you will not attend tutorials, complete assignments or sit an exam - a no-stress learning opportunity.
