Four Comedies and a Funeral

Opera Factory presents a fringe festival of 5 short productions in the heart of Newmarket from Thursday 18th to Saturday 27th March. Featuring two alternating programmes of double or triple bills, sung in English, suitable for all ages and starring up and coming performers.

Five short productions with varied settings from 18th century to the 1950’s - fully staged and costumed, this festival offers something for all. Ominous omelettes, mistaken identities, tragedies at sea, divine divas and persistent phone calls are the key ingredients of ‘Four Comedies and a Funeral’.

The festival season is limited to 10 performances and a super special combo price is available to enjoy the whole festival if you book for two performances - see all 5 shows for only $40. Single programme tickets are $35 and concessions are available for seniors, students, children and groups.

Programme A is a triple bill and features Mozart’s pastiche comedy ‘The Impresario’ , Vaughan-Williams’s haunting drama ‘Riders to the Sea’, followed by the delectable comic‘ Doctor Miracle’ by Bizet.

Programme B is a double bill and features Thomas Arne’s pastorale English comedy ‘Thomas & Sally’ followed by Menotti’s delicious 1950’s domestic American comedy ‘The Telephone’.

The festival music directors are Rosemary Barnes and Jesse Martins with stage directions by Sally Sloman and Carmel Carroll and stage and lighting designs by John Eaglen and Phillip Dexter.

‘FOUR COMEDIES AND A FUNERAL’ runs from 18 to 27 March at the Opera Factory studio theatre, 7 Eden Street, Newmarket. Located just off-Broadway and surrounded by top cafes and restaurants, the Factory theatre is minutes from public carparks, the Link bus and train services .
