Last Ride in a Hot Air Balloon
The George Fraser Gallery is one of the exhibition partners for the 4th Auckland Triennial. Organised by the Auckland Art Gallery, Last Ride in a Hot Air Balloon looks at the impulse towards adventure and risk in art today. Its title alludes to adventure’s often romantic forms, yet the balloon’s bird’s eye view is connected to earth’s surface in a manner that a jet aircraft cannot. Triennial Curator Natasha Conland says, “Adventure and risk have been central to modern geographic and economic expansion and exploration at large. Today in a world of social and financial constraints, adventure and risk are in an era of transformation, it’s timely to look at their potential in a sustainable world.”
