What About Classical Music? (Hub Session)
What about classical music? Middle-C critics talk about their trade. (Hub Session)
"A critic is a legless man who teaches running" - Channing Pollock, American playwright and critic.
Middle C’s reviewers, Peter Mechen, Lindis Taylor and Alan Wells attempt to answer some tough and entertaining questions in this seminar, the first in a series of discussions about classical music.
Why isn’t classical music more popular and why is it sometimes hard to listen to? Do we need music critics? How do THEY know what’s good and what isn’t? Is classical music elitist? How do critics engage with composers, performers and audiences? All are welcome to come along, listen and contribute to the discussion.
