Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra comes to South Auckland to celebrate New Zealand musical talent by performing some of the best local music, as well as some popular symphonic melodies including music from Beethoven’s famous Symphony No.5, Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Khachaturian’s passionate Adagio from his suite Spartacus.
Papakura High School student Jonathan Fuller introduces his spirited piece Pacifica – which aims to bring the different Pacific cultures together through music. The piece won the top prize in the 2008 Trust Secondary Composers’ Competition, while the concert finale is the iconic Once Were Warriors theme arranged for a full symphony orchestra (complete with electric guitar!).
New Zealand conductor-composer Ken Young takes the baton for this celebration of music that you can’t afford to miss.
