Pat Pattison is a Professor at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches Lyric Writing and Poetry. His books Writing Better Lyrics, The Essential Guide to Lyric Form and Structure, and The Essential Guide to Rhyming are considered definitive in their genre and have earned many ecstatic reviews. In addition, Pat has developed three online lyric writing courses for Berklee's online school, available through Berkleemusic.com.

Pat has written over 30 articles for Home & Studio Recording Magazine, and The Performing Songwriter and a variety of industry publications and continues to present songwriting clinics across the globe. His internationally successful students include Grammy winners John Mayer, Gillian Welch and Rob Hotchkiss (Train).

SONGWRITING 2 DAY SEMINAR
CPIT Jazz School - Sat/Sun 28 & 29 May 10am-4pm

The 2 Day seminar Tools and Strategies: Sharpen your lyric writing skills and discover the techniques that have helped his students, including John Mayer and Gillian Welch, win Grammys and write number one songs.

In this seminar, you'll learn how to craft more vivid lyrics by mastering the elements of structure and the process of building great lyrical ideas into great songs. How to generate better ideas, find the right words to express those ideas, and organise rhythms and rhymes into compelling verses, choruses and bridges. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned writer, this course will help you structure your lyrics more effectively.

Participants are invited to submit a song for critiquing. Day 2 builds upon the concepts discussed day 1 and during the afternoon session selected works will be performed live by the composer and reworked.

SONGWRITER MASTERCLASS SEMINAR
CPIT Jazz School - Mon 31 May, Tues 1 June, 6.00 - 10.00pm

The Master Class Seminars: Subject “Rewriting” presented in master class format will use participants' songs to demonstrate the rewriting process. We will focus on various issues, including verse development, productive repetition, phrasing, effective matching of lyric and melody, structure and prosody. We'll try to focus particularly on polishing those small bumps that distract the listener and let air escape from the song's tires.
