Familiar Places: Paintings by Katherine Duncan
Lines, colour and contrast all characterise the compositions from local artist Katherine Duncan in her latest exhibition.Through this collection of paintings, we find ourselves journeying to “Familiar Places” as the artist shares with us her favourite places.
Although the intention is to represent the atmosphere of a space rather than its physicality, the resulting images are informed by what the artist has seen. Consequently, her landscapes are often minimalist in subject; and in colour too – “a dust covered patch to the right, and beyond that hills of unfolding green”…
