ASB Queenstown JazzFest Jumpstart Competition 2010

The ASB Queenstown JazzFest invites talented young musicians from around New Zealand to enter the 2010 Jumpstart Jazz Competition which is to be held on 23-24 October 2010. The competition is open Nationwide to competitors aged 12-17 and 18-25, who can demonstrate their understanding of, and proficiency of the key elements of Jazz.  

 Youth Competition (ages 12-17)

Inviting anyone aged between 12 and 17 to take part in an open competition on Saturday 23 October 2010. Categories include Most Outstanding Solo Vocalist, Most Outstanding Solo Instrumental, and Best Band Combo. Entrants have until 5:00pm, Friday 15 October to register.

The NZONE Emerging Talent Competition (ages 18-25)

Open to talented young musicians aged between 18-25. Finalists will be selected from an initial audition round via DVD or web upload submissions. Finalists will then be invited to compete in a live performance in Queenstown on 24 October 2010. Categories include Most Outstanding Solo Vocalist and Most Outstanding Solo Instrumental.  Entrants have until 5:00pm, Friday 1 October to register.

Throughout the weekend all Jumpstart Competitors can also take part in a range of tutorial Workshops designed to develop their musical skills. All competitors will be given free entry to one Workshop of their choice.

The ASB Queenstown Jazzfest runs from 21-25 October and is Queenstown’s major springtime event. It brings music to the masses in a 5 day live music celebration which showcases a breadth of jazz styles from New Zealand and around the world.
