50 Years in Music: Mike Nock in Concert
Come celebrate legendary jazz composer and musician Mike Nock’s 70th Birthday with a knock out concert by the man himself.
Timed to coincide with the release of Serious Fun, a biography of Mike Nock written by Norman Meehan and published by the Victoria University Press, 50 Years in Music features Nock performing solo, and with the Mike Nock Trio and the New Zealand String Quartet.
This concert will blend the best of jazz and chamber music, and will appeal to lovers of fine music across genres.
Mike Nock has long been one of the top modern jazz keyboardists to emerge from this part of the world, and has worked with legends such as Coleman Hawkins, Pee Wee Russell, Sam Rivers and Yusef Lateef.
Don’t miss this very special and intimate celebration of the man and his music.
“Having heard Nock’s music for many years – and being aware of his genius as a composer, arranger and player – I found it amazing to see him perform live for the first time. He proved he could build from a platform, adding layers and textures – working with minimalism, classical, jazz and noiresque soundscapes to show that many colours can be conjured from the keys of a piano.”
