Southland Conference of the Arts

The Southland Conference of the Arts will be held in will be held in the Windsor Community Church, Windsor St, Invercargill, on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16. Its aim is to inspire and motivate people involved in the arts throughout Southland.

Workshops and speakers will help to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, both individual and organisational. By the end of Day 2 it is hoped new ideas will have been generated to ensure the arts sector - it includes visual, performance, literary, multidisciplinary, cultural and other arts - is more widely recognised and better supported in Southland.

Among the conference speakers and workshop leaders:

  • Denise L'Estrange-Corbet, founder and designer for World Fashion House
  • Ngahihi o te ra Bidois, an international motivational leadership speaker. He is the head of art, fashion, journalism and Maori studies) at Waiariki Institute of Technology, Rotorua.
  • Kerri Tilby has over 15 years experience in the not-for-profit sector and has supported hundreds of groups in their fundraising, sponsorship and marketing efforts. She is editor of Tonic magazine for the community sector and wrote the Seriously Good Guide to Fundraising.
  • Maggie Gresson, manager of Artists Alliance, the representative agency for visual artists.

Subsidies for clubs, organisations and individuals

The Creative Communities Funding Programme administrated by the Invercargill City Council and the Southland District Council are offering subsidies to attend the Southland arts conference.

Clubs and Organisations sending up to two members will receive a discount of $50 for each member attending the two-day programme. Those attending only one day will be eligible for a $25 subsidy. It is expected that the members attending will participate in workshops which provide information that will enhance and strengthen clubs and organisation eg sponsorship, fundraising, Event Oily Rag Project. Please print downloadable registration forms (below) and complete one for each club attendee or telephone Karen Blomfield at (03) 211 1697 for additional copies.

Individual artists are eligible for a $50 subsidy if they live in the Invercargill City or Southland District Council area. One-day attendees will be eligible for a $25 subsidy.

NOTE: The subsidies are limited and will be allocated as registrations with payment are received.
