Public talk: MAKING IT in a digital world

In partnership with Creative New Zealand and Objectspace, National Services Te Paerangi invite you to this free talk by Edinburgh-based contemporary craft curator Amanda Game.

Amanda will discuss finding different ways to develop links between the artist/maker and the wider audience – ways which are interesting and valuable to all and explore the opportunities offered by new media. Amanda will also demonstrate the importance of stimulating and maintaining critical debate within the field of craft and the applied arts.

Amanda Game has had a thirty-year curatorial career, which includes two decades working at Edinburgh’s prestigious The Scottish Gallery, as well as subsequent work as a freelance writer/curator. She is a founding director of IC:Innovative Craft and she has been a tireless champion of contemporary craft. Amanda has made an important contribution to ensuring the visibility of current craft practices within the UK and beyond.

Amanda joined The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh in 1986. Her role was to establish a regular programme of contemporary craft exhibitions, with a particular focus on jewellery, metalwork, ceramics and glass. Under her guidance The Scottish Gallery became a leading venue for modern craft in the UK, with an international programme of more than 200 exhibitions from 1986 to 2007.

In 2008, Amanda left The Scottish Gallery to pursue a freelance career as a curator and writer. As part of her freelance activities, from 2008 Amanda has been acting as Consulting Lead Director for IC:Innovative Craft.
