Vincent Ward: A Filmmaker's Journey

Script to Screen in association with the Screen Directors Guild presents a Writer’s Room with one of New Zealand’s most experienced and acclaimed directors, Vincent Ward.

Hailed as “one of films’ great image makers” by the Boston Globe, Vincent Ward has consistently received international critical acclaim for his diverse films.

His early films Vigil (1984), The Navigator (1988) and Map of the Human Heart (1993) were the first films by a New Zealander to be officially selected for the Cannes Film Festival and between them garnered close to 30 national and international awards. Ward’s latest film, ground breaking documentary Rain of the Children, was called “A haunting historical epic…masterful” by the Hollywood Reporter.

This November Ward’s book, The Past Awaits, a collection of images and stories about his films, will be released. Join MC  director/producer Dan Salmon and Vincent Ward for a conversation about what he calls his, “Search to stay whole through making films”, where the quest to make good and innovative work is necessarily one of adventure, exploration and discovery.
