National Services : Art handling workshop
Auckland:
The Artstation, 1 Ponsonby Road, Auckland
Friday 10th September 2010, 9am–5pm.
Cost: $65 – which will include a USB with the presentation materials
This poutama three | step three workshop is for museum and gallery professionals who have over five years experience in the museum sector
This will cover:
· Packing materials for different purposes
· Handling methods
· Definition of a loss
· Storage issues, well being of the collection
· High-value touring exhibitions and logistics
· Collections management and conservation assessment
· Touring of exhibitions and conservation, freight and insurance etc
· Art commissioning and dealing with site specific practicalities of ongoing conservation and maintenance
· Vandalism, tagging and desecration of art works in the public domain and urban environment and dispute resolution.
Who will I meet?
Carolina Izzo – Art Conservator
Carolina has over 25 years of experience in Italy and New Zealand. She has worked in the areas of preventive conservation, cataloguing, and tutoring at tertiary institutions in both countries on maintenance and caring for collections.
In Italy, from her studio based in the Capodimonte Museum, Carolina worked on major projects including the Royal Palace of Naples and some of the most important churches and monuments in Southern Italy. After moving to New Zealand in 2001 she worked at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa as a painting conservator for seven years before setting up her own studio in Wellington.
Scott Pothan – Director, Whangarei Art Museum – Te Wharetaonga O Whangarei
Scott has been project leader, designer and founding director of the Whangarei Art Museum – Te Wharetaonga O Whangarei since 1995. He is involved in every aspect of the development, implementation and high-profile outcomes of this small but vibrant regional museum facility for the district and city of Whangarei.
Scott’s professional background over the past 35 years has been both in arts administration and management. He has managed both representative dealer galleries, public art museum spaces and his own galleries which specialised in contemporary art and works on paper by major New Zealand artists.
