The Press Christchurch Writers Festival 2010

The Press Christchurch Writers Festival 2010

Thursday 9th–Sunday 12th September 2010

The Press Christchurch Writers’ Festival (September 9 - 12, 2010) is the largest Festival of its kind in the South Island and has become a major event in the city’s rich cultural life. Since its inception in 1997, the Festival has been steadily building in size, reputation, awareness, international participation and popularity within the Christchurch and South Island community.

The Festival introduces local readers and writers to international authors, works and ideas, but also retains a strong focus on New Zealand writing and writers and in this way plants seeds that will eventually grow into long-term benefits to the community in terms of literacy and love of literature of all kinds.

The programme touches on a broad range of genres including fiction, non-fiction, the media, food writing, crime and thrillers, blogging, travel and politics.

The 2010 Festival programme consists of a series of the ‘Read Aloud’ schools’ programme, several informal events for ‘word-lovers’, a keynote session with a major international writer and presenter, a concentrated and comprehensive weekend of individual and panel discussions and conversations with international and local authors and commentators.

It is a truly interactive event, where sessions are opened up to audience discussion and interaction, where intensive writing workshops inspire and help people in their own artistic endeavours, and young readers get to listen to and talk to their favourite authors.
