Taste of Japan

Join us for the 50th Anniversary celebrations of The New Zealand Japan Society of Auckland Inc, hosted by NZJS and the Consulate General of Japan.

Taste of Japan is a major annual cultural festival, showcasing Japanese culture in Auckland. It is a day of entertainment, with stage shows, workshops, displays and a range of activities for kids and adults. Plus, you won't go hungry - there will be a number of food and beverage stalls offering a genuine 'taste' of Japan.

To mark the 50th Anniversary of NZJS we bring to Auckland world class acts from Japan and Australia: the Fuga-Shakuhachi group from Fukuoka; Koto player Akiko Yamaguchi and Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) artist Yasuhisa Kohara from Chiba; and Fujima Senyo, a Japanese dancer based in Sydney. These great entertainers join NZJS's own Haere Mai Taiko team, who use taiko drums to share the passion and spirit of Japan with all New Zealanders.

Everything from Japanese art, to beautiful kimono, to ikebana will be on display, and throughout the day there are also sessions on sushi-making, sake-tasting, origami, sado tea ceremonies, tatami, and more.
