The Artists

Louis Sutherland and Mark Albiston 6 Dollar Fifty Man

The Artists, short-form programming produced in partnership with The Arts Foundation, profiles winning artists and glimpses the fabulous work which has seen them recognised.

In 2010 the Arts Foundation, who honour artists across all disciplines, announced five new recipients of their Laureate Award for prominent New Zealand artists who have a proven track record and six recipients of their New Generation Award for promising early career artists who have already had significant success.

Tonight's episode looks at Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland who grew up together at Raumati Beach settlement and began working together for a cable TV network. The two have now worked together in the industry for over 15 years and made the long-list for the 2011 Academy Awards with the third short film they have collaborated on and have officially co-directed The Six Dollar Fifty Man. The film has consistently been selected and screened internationally, winning at four of the 'A List' Academy accredited festivals. Mark and Louis are currently writing their feature screenplay Shopping.

The five minute episode plays first on Friday 29 April and then plays throughout the schedule thereafter.
