DRAW / PAINT / COLLAGE (BEGINNERS) TUTOR: KATHRYN STEVENS
Wednesday Evenings: 17 Aug – 21 Sept: 7pm – 9pm (6 weeks)
Fee: $100 (includes some materials)

This course is aimed at beginners and will develop students drawing and painting skills in a fun and elementary way. During the six weeks we explore the possibilities of working in layers using drawing, painting and collage. Students will learn drawing and painting skills, have fun and gain confidence in their art making and creativity.

 
LIFE DRAWING (ALL LEVELS) TUTOR: JAMES MOORE
Wednesdays Evenings: 17 Aug – 28 Sept: 7pm – 9pm (7 weeks)
Fee: $165 (includes model fee but not materials)

Can’t draw a straight line? Well try figure drawing - it’s full of curves. This is an exciting, intensive and rewarding course that establishes and develops knowledge and skills in drawing the human figure.

 
INTRODUCTION TO GREENSTONE CARVING (BEGINNERS) TUTOR: ERNESTO OVALLE
Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 Aug: 10am – 4pm
Fee: $140 (includes materials)

This course will introduce students to the intricacies of carving jade/greenstone/ pounamu. Ernesto will share his knowledge of these beautiful stones as well as aspects of Maori culture related to pounamu. The various techniques and processes involved in the cutting, shaping, grinding and finishing of the pieces will be demonstrated. Students will have the opportunity to create a pendant in greenstone. Ernesto has been carving greenstone from the West Coast of the South Island for a number of years. He currently occupies a studio at CEAC, and is a practicing jeweller keen to share his knowledge.

GLASS FUSING (BEGINNERS) TUTOR:  SUSAN BROGAN
Saturday 20 – Sunday 21 August: 10am – 4pm
Fee: $155 (includes materials)

Learn how to cut glass and discover the secrets of glass kiln craft. Fusing is fascinating and allows you to translate designs into functional works of art.  Design your own or be guided through the creation of unique colourful pieces of glass jewellery/tiles/wall art.  You will be amazed how much you will learn in just one weekend.  Read the tutor profile on page 13 for more information.

 
SCREEN PRINTING FOR BEGINNERS TUTOR: BOE BUSCH
Saturday 27 – Sunday 28 Aug: 10am – 4pm
Fee: $115 (includes materials)

In this 2-day course students will learn how to create multi coloured screen prints using hand cut stencils and water based inks. Printing on fabric and paper, students will learn the secrets of creating beautiful designs and prints. The course will cover everything you need to know to get you started from preparing your artwork, registration and printing.  By the end of the 2 days, students will have gained the expertise to set up and print at home.

 
ABSTRACT PAINTING WORKSHOP (BEGINNERS - INTERMEDIATE) TUTOR: KATHRYN STEVENS
Saturday 27 – Sunday 28 Aug: 10am – 4pm
Fee: $100 (includes some materials)

Ideal for beginners to intermediate painters who are working in an abstract way or wanting to move their painting in that direction. During the weekend we will explore different starting points for generating abstract paintings and the process through to finished works. Students can expect to gain confidence in their ability to use paint and generate ideas relevant to themselves and their interests.

 
COLOUR WORKSHOP (INTERMEDIATE) TUTOR: KATHRYN STEVENS
Saturday 17 – Sunday 18 Sept: 10am – 4pm
Fee: $100 (includes some materials)

This course is aimed at students with some painting experience who want to explore some practical ways of using colour, with a view to developing a personal palette that works. Over the weekend we will experiment with colour mixing and exercises that generate colour systems.  Students will leave with a better understanding of colour mixing and colour relationships in a practical way that they can then apply to their own painting.

    The Corban Estate Arts Centre (CEAC)
