David Ryan: Elsewhere (field site archive)

The Field Site Archive is the collection and dissemination point for the observation, recording and reconstruction of moving through a landscape. It is comprised of paintings, tableau, models, time based media and electronic sound.

Influenced by the episodic narratives of long horizontal Chinese hand scrolls the paintings depict multiple viewpoints and shifting eye levels compressed into a single view. This constitutes a system of representation that delineates a landscape rendered invisible by virtue of its complexity and re-creates on a diminished scale an image that in the landscape can never be seen.
