As of 2009, Sculpture in Central Otago is operated by the Wanaka Arts Charitable Trust whose primary aim is to promote sculpture and fine art with particular emphasis on the Wanaka and Central Otago Region. This year we are proud to have the support of select local businesses and individuals who have joined us in becoming sponsors and patrons. Their support provides us with the opportunity to help grow Sculpture in Central Otago into one of Wanaka's leading cultural events significantly contributing to the arts in the local community.

Sculpture in Central Otago is heading into its 6th event, this year, for the first time, we are offering a Peoples' Choice Award. The award is kindly sponsored by theAlpine Ventures Group of Wanaka. The winner will be drawn during The Festival of Colourin April prior to the closure ofSculpture in Central Otago on 1 May.

Sculpture in Central Otago 2011 opens Waitangi Weekend with a special preview on Friday 4 February starting at 5:30 pm. The opening weekend’s events continue all day Saturday and Sunday 5 - 6 February. Sculpture in Central Otagooffers you the unique opportunity to spend time amongst the inspiring work of some of New Zealand’s most prominent sculptors, explore the internationally-acclaimed biodynamic Rippon vineyard, and to enjoy great wine, great food and great coffee. Catch artists’ talks and learn more about their work, or simply relax in the shade of the trees while listening to the live music of the alluring Icelandic-born, New Zealand-based singer/songwriter Hera.

Special opening preview Friday 4 February: 5:30 pm – 8:00pm
Tickets are $30 and include anytime entrance to this sculpture event, a catalogue, map and event guide.

The early evening's refreshments include canapés by Raspberry Creek complemented by a selection of Rippon wines. This part of the evening is kindly sponsored by Partridge Jewellers, who have just recently opened in Queenstown.

Live music by Hera, a previous winner of the Icelandic Best Female Singer award. With her alluring charm, unique vocals and charged guitar performance, Hera is a highlight of Christchurch's contemporary music scene.

Welcome speeches by our curator Peter Gregg, Felicity Milburn, curator at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu; and Nick Mills of Rippon Vineyard.

Upon the conclusion of these formalities, guests are invited to embark upon the sculpture trail: a 1.5km trail through the Rippon property – which should prove to be a lovely meander.

Waitangi Weekend, the opening:
Gates open at 10:00 am and close at 5:00 pm.

Entry $15. Children 15 and under, free. Ticket holders receive a catalogue, map and guide to the opening events.

Artists' talks are scheduled throughout the weekend.

Rippon's brand new tasting room will be open from where you can sample their wines. Purchase a bottle of wine to enjoy with your picnic lunch - Raspberry Creek will have a selection of delicious take-away food available to buy.

A marquee on the lower vineyard will provide a sheltered and relaxed spot from where you can enjoy live music and refreshing cold drinks surrounded by the inspiring sculptures.

In addition to the large scale outdoor exhibits, a selection of smaller scale sculptures for sale will be displayed within the Rippon venue.
