Serene Tay: Pseudo - Urbanisation

Serene Tay presents 'Pseudo-Urbanisation' a collection of cermaic work and paintings that focus around two core concepts that inform her work. Pseudo - Urbanisation, the condition in which a large city has formed in an area without a functional infrastructure to support it resulting in shortages developing, typically in housing, education, transportation, clean water and waste removal services and other services such as law enforcment.

Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki (Gisborne c 1832 - 1891) was a Maori leader, the founder of the Ringatu religion. While fighting alongside government forces against the Hauhau in 1865 he was accused of spying. Exiled to the Chatham Islands without trial and alonside captured Hauhau, he experienced visions and became a religious leader.
