headland - Sculpture on the Gulf 2011
Every two years the Waiheke Community Art Gallery combines one of the island's most scenic walks at Matiatia (the harbour where the Fullers ferry docks) with a free national sculpture exhibition.
It's got bigger and better each time and this year 39 large contemporary sculptures by New Zealand's most respected artists feature at headland - Sculpture on the Gulf from 28 January until 20 February. The sculptures are dotted along a 2.5km walk over some of the most beautiful scenery you can imagine.
As well as the outdoor exhibition, the gallery at Oneroa, the island's main village, is holding a small sculpture exhibition featuring sculptures by artists from throughout New Zealand, including maquettes from some of the outdoor works.
