Children's Book Illustration: Part One

Sandra Morris, BFA, PostGradDip (Plant and Wildlife Illustration), MFA

Since the rapid increase in children's book publishing in the early 20th century, children's book illustration has become a desirable outlet for many talented artists. This course will cover the history and development of children's book illustration, with particular attention to the work of successful contemporary illustrators. Drawing exercises will guide you through the artistic process of character development (human or animal). We will then explore the process of turning your character into a 3D model that could be useful for further work while illustrating your book. Limited to 14 participants

You will require competent drawing skills and will bring a completed story to work with, either your own or a borrowed one (a nursery rhyme is fine). A materials list will be provided prior to the course.
