The Dissolution of the Painted Image

Erica Smith, BVA, DipTchg (Sec), PGDip (Art History)

Where does today's art come from? This course introduces the art of the last twocenturies and traces the gradual disintegration of the lifelike image in modern art. We begin with the works of Neoclassical painter, Jaques-Louis David, and finish with the American Pop artists. You will explore to what extent the development of dealer galleries and the artist-as-product, played in the image's demise. Limited to 25 participants
