MATARIKI 2011
Saturday 15th July to Sunday 7th August 2011
With Artists Talks 10:30 Sat 15th July
We give respect to the whenua on which we live and admiration to our mother earth, Papatuanuku. Throughout Matariki we learn about those who came before us, our history, our family, our bones. Matariki signals the time of growth, its a time of change, a time to prepare and a time of action. During Matariki we acknowledge what we have and what we have to give. Matariki celebrates the diversity of life, culture, language, spirit and people.
The Academy celebrates all of these things with this open exhibition featuring the selected works of artists from around the country and invited guest artists Darcy Nicholas and our own Jenny Shearer.
