    Mary Prema

Mary Prema is an Award winning Art Educator and Artist, based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Her paintings are represented in corporate and private collections in New Zealand and overseas.

Mary passionately captures the essence of New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands' natural beauty. She has travelled extensively in New Zealand, Australia, South Pacific Islands and other countries, the spirit of life and culture in these lands inspires Mary and fills her work. An enjoyment for tramping & hiking has furthered Mary's appreciation for the lush flora and fauna in the natural world of New Zealand and overseas.

Mary loves to challenge herself with different themes and styles of art, and specializes in giving a modern, contemporary twist to realistic scenes. She has worked in most mediums, but favours acrylics on canvas. Her use of spectacular layers of colour combined with intrepid use of light and shadow adds a dramatic effect and interest to her paintings.

Born in India, Mary's talent for painting was discovered at an early age. She won numerous art awards in school and held her first exhibition at the age of 19. She continued to exhibit her work in many forums while also pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, a Master's degree in Business Administration, a Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations and later Certificate in Visual Arts.

Upon graduation, Mary worked in Human Resources and Marketing for nearly 14 years. Painting was set aside in pursuit of this career, but she always envisioned one day returning to her other love. In 2001 Mary found her heart's home in New Zealand and decided to stay permanently. After working in various business contexts, in 2010 she seized the opportunity to launch into an active art career.

Mary's days are now full of painting, teaching art, travel, exhibiting her work and a new job teaching Business Management. A member of the NZ Art Guild and working from West Auckland, Mary also produces unique and beautiful paintings under commission for various clients.
