Let's Shake - connecting with a handshake
Let’s Shake is an event where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities come together to shake hands, talk, share and create. It involves sitting at a table with another person and making a unique piece of art together by shaking hands while waiting for the plaster to harden between your hands. The mould you create will form part of an installation that will be exhibited in Wellington and later in other parts of the world. As the handshakes from New Zealand mix with handshakes from Australia, China, Mexico and Turkey they will become more than unique art forms, they will represent a global experience.
Everyone is welcome, so please register yourself, your family, your work colleagues, your staff, your community.... Just email us at: info@projectkit.co.nz. Each sitting will take about 30 minutes. And remember 20 June is also World Refugee Day, so it’s going to be extra special.
Let’s Shake was first introduced in Australia by artist Karen Casey in 2007, to foster peace and reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples. We are thrilled that Karen will be in Wellington for this event and will present a short talk each day with an opportunity for questions from the public.
