KAPA HAKA FESTIVAL TO RAISE FUNDS FOR VICTIMS OF WAITAHA EARTHQUAKE, 1pm, Saturday 19 March 2011 - Rotorua Events Centre

Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa Trust is sponsoring a Kapa Haka festival in Rotorua to raise funds for victims of the Waitaha Earthquake.

The 5 Te Arawa teams who attended Te Matatini o Te Ra together with most of the Top 9 Finalists from Te Matatini o Te Ra will be in attendance.

Waka Huia, Te Whanau a Apanui, Opotiki Mai Tawhiti and Waihirere have all confirmed their attendance.

The festival is the idea of Te Matarae i o Rehu and the Te Arawa Kapa Haka Trust. Specialist Event Management guru Monty Morrison has agreed to be the Festival Event Manager and Mauriora Kingi has worked through council to secure the venue. Watu Mihinui from Tuhourangi Ngati Wahiao has organised accommodation for participating Kapa Haka.

The festival will be held at the Rotorua Events Centre on Saturday 19 March 2011 from 1pm to 6pm with doors opening at 11am. Kapa Haka memorabilia will be auctioned in between the team performances and raffles will also be run during the festival. All ticket sales,auction funds, stalls and raffle proceeds will be given to assist victims of the Waitaha Earthquake.
