Glorious

“Words are like men, once you get your tongue around them they’re yours for life”

Finalist for the Playmarket New New Zealand Play award, Glorious is a skilful blend of sophistication, slapstick and social commentary, singing with sensuality and the rapid-fire, whip-crack wit of the 1940’s screwball comedy.

Gloria is a bored socialite with a rich father; Jimmy is a writer working as a waiter at her father’s birthday party. What Gloria wants, Gloria gets, and when she sets her sights on Jimmy in order to upset her father, she gets much more than she bargained for…

Double Chapman Tripp nominee Anya Tate-Manning and Toi Whakaari graduate Sam Bunkall (Romeo and Juliet - ATC, Dog Sees God - Basement) are directed by multi award-winning director Patrick Davies (Best Director/Production of the Year 2010 - The Pitmen Painters) in this stunning production fresh from a critically acclaimed Wellington season.

“Anya Tate-Manning is dazzling and irresistible as Gloria…Sam Bunkall feels like the perfect match for her with his languid elegance…Patrick Davies' direction is right on the mark…the two actors hold the stage for 90 plus minutes and leave you wanting more. Play it again!”

Lynn Freeman – Capital Times

“Glorious is clever, stylish, well produced and crisply performed with wit and panache...a well-paced production that drives inexorably to its surprising conclusion.”
